Principal and Interior Designer, Gayla Jett Shannon founded her own firm, Inside Incorporated in 1997. She is a registered interior designer in the state of Texas, has a Master of Architecture degree and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design, and has studied the decorative arts and architecture in Europe with Parson’s School of Design and with the University of North Texas/American College of Switzerland. She currently practices and teaches interior design, and continues to expand her expertise as a perpetual and passionate student of architecture, art, interior design and the decorative arts. She has served in many capacities during her career, and has been an employee of two separate nationally recognized design firms, a designer within a retail setting, a free-lance consultant to other designers, and is currently an entrepreneur leading an award-winning design firm.

Gayla has a wide variety of project experience including fine residential, executive office, home office, restaurants, space planning, remodeling, millwork detailing, and furniture design. Her projects have been published in LUXE Magazine, Dallas Modern Luxury, Dallas Home Design, Woman’s Day, Trends in Architecture & Design, Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star- Telegram, Fort Worth Texas Magazine and she has received local, state and national awards for her designs.


As a teacher-scholar, Gayla brings her experience as a practicing designer to in the classroom through relevant anecdotes and realistic projects. Her research interests include color theory and its architectural application, human perception of space and form, and computer aided & hand generated graphics. In studio coursework, she emphasizes a “visual thinking” approach and the sensory aspects of drawing. She most highly values students’ development of problem solving skills, believing that once the student has acquired tenacity and resolve in overcoming challenges, few roadblocks will thwart their individual success.


Gayla is proficient at drawing by hand and believes that this skill, when developed, increases one’s ability to visualize space and design at a higher level. She makes drawing a part of her own exploratory and creative process. Gayla is an accomplished photographer, artist, and renderer using both digital and hand media.
